Job summary
Guide the strategic success of our customers using Red Hat's open source software. The Red Hat Open Innovation Labs team is looking for a Senior Consulting Engineer to join us in our new, state-of-the-art Seaport office facility in Boston, MA. In this role, you will work as part of a team composed of some of the brightest developers in the open source industry, partnering with our customers to build innovative software systems. You'll work in a residency-style engagement where consulting engineers work together with customers in small teams to build, test, and iterate over application prototypes attached to real business value. As a Senior Consulting Engineer, you will use a variety of modern application development practices along with emerging technologies from the communities of open source to get it done. You'll help us become the defining technology company of the 21st century, powered by open source. This is a remote position with weekly travel to customer sites and can be located anywhere in the U.S. within close proximity to an airport. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.
Primary job responsibilities
Team up with Red Hat and the open source community to engineer Open Innovation Labs-based software solutions designed to further accelerate our customers' success at the Open Innovation Labs
Become a trusted advisor to our customers, helping them achieve business success in an ever-changing technology landscape
Use your critical thinking skills to tackle tough problems in an innovative way
Team up with our customers to rapidly build application prototypes in our lab, using modern application development practices and open source emerging technologies like microservices, API management, and web-scale architectures, DevOps engineering and application delivery, container-based continuous delivery (CD), and cloud automation and everything-as-code
Required skills
Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical discipline
Significant development and delivery experience with full-stack web and mobile application development in a variety of languages that may include HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP, Node.js, AngularJS, JSON, Cordova, or Ionic
Experience in test automation for web and mobile applications
Experience converting web design into HTML and CSS
Applied knowledge of design patterns applicable to modern software development
Applied knowledge of working in agile, scrum, and DevOps teams
Ability to perform customer-facing activities in a fast-paced environment with short timeframes
Comfortable working with highly distributed teams, including interaction with open source communities
Applied knowledge of modern software test and delivery methods like test-driven development (TDD), behavior-driven development (BDD), continuous integration (CI), and CD
Solid written and verbal communication and presentation skills
Ability to quickly learn and put into practice new knowledge
Passion for open source software
Experience in design is a plus, including creating clean, modern design flats and wireframes for web and mobile
Willingness to travel to customer locations up to 75%, meaning 30-40 weeks per year on average

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
